NBEF’s honorary award is an acknowledgement of a significant contribution to achieving NBEF’s strategies and goals. Sometimes it is a homage to work that has been concluded, while other times it serves as an inspiration to carry on working within the same area.

This year the jury chose Svein Bjørberg, and many people have already stated that he was a highly deserved winner. Bjørberg has worked at Multiconsult for more than 40 years, and he has been an important and high-profile engineer in the industry for decades.

Jury comments:

“Over the course of more than 40 years in the industry, Svein has helped to develop the discipline of property management in Norway, Scandinavia and around the world. Thanks to his extensive R&D activities, practical experience, great ability to structure information and entertaining teaching style, he has made a valuable contribution in a variety of areas:

  • Increasing our understanding of the built environment’s impact on society, and of how it can be planned and managed in a user-oriented, productive and sustainable way. This can be seen, for instance, in his contribution to the White Paper ‘Good buildings for a better society’.
  • Raising awareness of concept design, the Construction Cost Programme and the OSCAR project.
  • Developing methodologies and national/Scandinavian standards for condition surveys, lowest life-cycle cost (LCC) and sustainable maintenance and renovation of existing buildings.
  • Teaching and sharing knowledge through his strong commitment to the development of study programmes and teaching programmes at national and European educational institutions.”
