Market leader in Western Norway

Thanks to its acquisitions of Vest Consult Stord AS, Helge Lindeflaten AS and LINK arkitektur AS, Multiconsult already has a strong presence on the island of Stord. The acquisition of Akvator will further reinforce our position in the region. With over 50 people on Stord, and 400 members of staff in total across Western Norway, Multiconsult will have the biggest community of consulting engineers in the axis between Bergen and Stavanger.

“We consider the area between Stavanger and Bergen to be a highly attractive market and our team on Stord will have a key role to play in our strategy for this region. Another important benefit is that the office is close to Hydro Karmøy, which is the site of Multiconsult’s biggest industrial project,” says Lars Opsahl, EVP Regions Norway.

“Multiconsult is a highly reputable interdisciplinary consulting engineering firm, which enjoys a strong market position along the whole coast. Joining Multiconsult will improve our market access in the disciplines where we are specialists, while our staff will also gain access to the expertise of a large team of engineers specialising in a variety of fields. We are looking forward to further improving the quality of services offered by the Stord office, and we are confident that our customers will also notice the benefits,” says Kjell Arne Møklebust, Managing Director of Akvator.

A springboard for further expansion into fishing and aquaculture

Fishing and aquaculture is a priority area for Multiconsult. With Akvator onboard, the company has an excellent springboard for further expansion into the fishing and aquaculture industries throughout Norway.

“Akvator possess unique expertise in design, planning and management processes in the coastal zone. This will very valuable as we gear up our presence in the fishing and aquaculture industries and will help us to fulfil our aim of becoming the market leading consulting engineers for onshore aquaculture. This kind of competence is in short supply in the Norwegian market in general, so we are extremely pleased that Akvator is becoming a part of Multiconsult,” says Tom Arild Olsen, the Head of Marketing at Industry.

The companies have already started productive discussions on how to use synergies to build market share in Western Norway and in the fishing and aquaculture industries across all of Norway.

The acquisition was completed on 1 June 2016.
