Two of Multiconsult’s entries were finalists in the ITA competition for underground construction.

On 10-11 November, The International Tunneling and Underground Space Association held the second edition of the ITA Tunneling Awards.
This international competition aims to recognise and honour cutting-edge solutions and innovative infrastructure used in underground construction.

This year there were 98 applicants from 25 different countries competing to reach the finals in nine different categories. The jury consisted of a panel of 17 experts. After a detailed assessment, 33 projects were nominated as finalists. These included three Norwegian entries.

Two of the Norwegian candidates, Boliden in Odda and Fana Stein og Gjenvinning in Bergen, both reached the finals in two categories: “Environmental initiative of the year” and “Innovative use of underground space”. Multiconsult had helped to design and supervise these two projects, and it sent Frode S. Arnesen and Anne Hommefoss from the rock engineering section of its GEO department to Singapore to present them.

Unfortunately the projects didn’t quite manage to win, but the presentations did generate a lot of interest.
